Membership is free for people who live, work or attend school in Whitby. Library membership is also available at no charge to all residents of Durham Region. Verification of eligibility is required. If you have a Whitby Public Library card, you already have full library privileges using your library card number and personal identification number (PIN). You will not be registered for another library membership account but if have lost your card, you can get a replacement for $2. The annual membership fee for those who do not live, work or attend school in Whitby is $40.00 per person. Temporary Whitby residents are charged a $10 deposit, which is refundable upon return of all materials and the temporary Library card. You can apply for a library card at any branch of the Whitby Public Library. You can also apply online for a library card by completing the Borrower Self-Registration Form (click here) and have your membership validated in person at any of our 3 branches. Please note that you will be required to present proof of identification and residence. Acceptable Forms of identification may include but is not limited to: Adults (14 years and older) must present valid identification at Borrower Services when picking up the new library card. We will accept parent's identification for young adults who do not have id. Parents must be present with ID at time of card pickup.
